How to Become a Home Inspector in Texas in 5 Steps:

  1. Take and pass our 154-hour online Texas Home Inspector course; dates and locations are shown below. Our Texas Course Student Enrollment Agreement must also be signed before you begin your course.
  2. Complete our 40-hour Texas practicum field training class. This class can be completed before, during or after you have passed the ICA online Texas course.
  3. Submit your license application to the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC).
  4. Have fingerprints and background check completed.
  5. Pass the 200 question National Home Inspector Exam and 30 question TX State Home Inspector Exam. Our included Texas exam prep material includes over 950 questions to prepare you for your exams.

Inspection Certification Associates’ Home Inspection Training Program will teach you, step by step, how to perform a professional home inspection. At the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Thoroughly understand how to evaluate the condition of all building systems in an existing dwelling unit.
  • Recognize and effectively report on hazardous situations which should be corrected to prevent possible injury or death of the occupants.
  • Be able to advise the occupants and/or the home-buyer of the overall energy efficiency of the dwelling unit and various methods to address deficiencies.
  • Be able to effectively conduct a home inspection in Texas or at a national level.
  • Be able to write a comprehensive inspection report using recognized Standards of Practice.

The course consists of an asynchronous module including videos, readings, activities, scenario-based learnings, quiz materials, and final exams.

Using practical and technical knowledge, this asynchronous course will instruct to attain these objectives via the following methods:

  • Instructional Video, featuring real life illustrations and photos to educate
  • Scenario Based Learning Exercises that loop until the material is mastered; will not receive a passing score until the questions are completely answered correctly
  • Material that speaks to technical aspects of the home inspection field as well as anecdotal learning
  • Quiz structure that loops until the material is mastered; will not receive a passing score until the questions are completely answered correctly
