Course Details
This four-hour continuing education course is divided into two sections. The purpose of the first section is to provide an understanding of inspection requirements and procedures for the interior of a home, including built-in kitchen appliances. The purpose of the second section of this course is to provide an understanding of insulation and ventilation systems in a home.

  1. Part One
    1. Standards of Practice and Permitting, 10 minutes
      1. Look at the NCHILB standards of practice regarding the interior of a home.
    2. Interior Room Inspections, 10 minutes
      1. Look at the NC building code that applies to the interior inspection process.
    3. Garages, Carports, and Means of Egress, 10 minutes
    4. Stairs, Risers, and Guard Railings, 15 minutes
    5. Part One Quiz, 2 minutes
  2. Part Two
    1. Smoke Alarms and Carbon Monoxide Detectors, 5 minutes
      1. Look at the NC building code that applies to the interior inspection process.
    2. Windows, Doors, Walls, Ceilings, and Floors, 15 minutes
    3. Built-In Kitchen Appliances, 20 minutes
      1. Discuss the inspection process for built-in kitchen appliances.
    4. Part Two Quiz, 2 minutes
  3. Part Three
    1. Standards of Practice and Types of Insulation, 10 minutes
      1. Look at the NC building code that applies to insulation.
    2. The Energy Code – Building Thermal Envelope, 25 minutes
      1. Look at the NC building code that applies to the building thermal envelope.
    3. Ventilation – General Considerations and the NC Mechanical Code, 20 minutes
      1. Look at the NC building code that applies to ventilation.

    1. Balanced Ventilation Systems and Crawl Space Ventilation, 25 minutes
