Florida–licensed home inspectors are required to complete 14 hours of continuing education every two years to renew their license. The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) requires: 12 hours of General continuing education covering components of a home, and 2 hours of hurricane wind mitigation training including instruction on the Uniform Mitigation Verification Inspection Form (OIR-B1-1802).

If you have held an active Florida home inspector license continuously for at least 10 years, and no disciplinary action has been taken against your license, you are now exempt from continuing education requirements for renewal. Become a Certified Wind Mitigation Inspector in Florida
Florida’s 2-hour wind mitigation requirement for CE is just the first step. As of July 1, 2010, licensed Florida home inspectors can also sign the Uniform Mitigation Verification Inspection Form (OIR-B1-1802) for insurance discount purposes — but only if they have completed at least 3 hours of hurricane mitigation training approved by the Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB). This includes training on mitigation techniques and compliance with the uniform mitigation verification form, plus a proficiency exam.

Yes. Once you complete a course, we will report your hours to the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation the next business day.

What is your refund policy?
How many CE hours do Florida home inspectors need to renew?
Florida–licensed home inspectors are required to complete 14 hours of continuing education per renewal cycle. Of those 14 hours, 12 hours must be General continuing education covering home inspection services or the eight components of a home (structure, electrical, HVAC, roof covering, plumbing, interior, exterior, and site conditions). The remaining 2 hours of hurricane wind mitigation must include instruction on the Uniform Mitigation Verification Inspection Form (OIR-B1-1802). All 14 hours must be completed with a DBPR-approved provider before the renewal period deadline of July 31 of each even-numbered year.
When is the Florida home inspector license renewal deadline?
Florida home inspector licenses must be renewed before midnight EST on July 31 of even-numbered years (i.e. July 31, 2026). The Florida DBPR will email you a renewal notice 90–120 days before the deadline. All required continuing education hours must be completed before you can renew. ICA reports your completed CE hours to DBPR the next business day, so courses completed close to the deadline will typically appear in your myfloridalicense.com account within 24–48 hours.
Am I exempt from continuing education if I’ve been licensed for 10+ years?
Possibly, yes. Under Florida SB 382, effective July 1, 2024, home inspectors who meet all three of the following criteria are exempt from the CE requirement: (1) your license is currently active; (2) you have held your license continuously for at least 10 years; and (3) no disciplinary action has been imposed against your license. You can verify your exemption status by logging into your account at myfloridalicense.com or by searching the DBPR online licensing portal. If you are not sure, contact the Florida Home Inspectors Licensing Program directly.
Do inactive home inspector licenses in Florida still require continuing education?
Yes, the Florida DBPR requires both active and inactive licensed home inspectors to complete the full 14-hour CE requirement for renewal. Holding an inactive license does not exempt you from the continuing education requirements. The only exemption is the 10-year exemption described above (SB 382).
Can I use other DBPR-approved courses to satisfy the General CE hours?
Yes, in addition to ICA’s DBPR-approved home inspection CE courses, your 12 General hours can also include courses approved by the Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB) that are related to the eight components of a home. Advanced building code courses accredited by the Florida Building Commission (FBC) from the Board of Professional Engineers, the Board of Architecture and Interior Design, the Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board, or the Electrical Contractors’ Licensing Board are also accepted for General hours.
