Do all home inspectors need continuing education?
If the inspector lives in a state where home inspections are regulated, CE (continuing education) is required. Most home inspector licensing boards require continuing education to stay up to date with changes and developments in the industry. The majority of home inspection boards will require CE to maintain a home inspection certification or license. The specific requirements for continuing education aka CE may vary depending on the inspector’s state or province. Continuing education should be completed with an approved school to ensure the proper credit is earned and awarded to the student upon completion of the training.
Many states require home inspectors to complete a predetermined number of hours of CE (continuing education) each year to three years. These courses may cover topics such as construction standards, new technologies, safety regulations, and home inspection techniques. Home inspectors in some states can do CE online and self-paced while other states require live in-person or webinar training to stay current with home inspection trends and best practices.
Continuing education provides a way for home inspectors to ensure that they are providing the highest level of service to their clients and maintaining their professional standards. By keeping skills up to date, home inspectors can provide more accurate and detailed inspections. Ultimately continuing education can help home inspectors to help home-buyers make informed decisions about their future home purchase.
