How do I become a home inspector in Ontario?
As soon as you complete our online home inspection course, you become a certified home inspector. Upon completion of the course, we email your home inspection certification and issue you your certification number. That number is what you will want to put on your business cards and home inspection reports. At that point, you’re ready to go in Ontario!
Do I need a special license to be a home inspector in Toronto?
Toronto home inspectors do not need a special license to inspect homes or commercial property. Most real estate professionals will want to see that the inspectors they hire are trained and certified by a reputable training school such as ICA. It is important to write home inspection reports in accordance with the accepted standards of practice in Ontario, in order to build and grow a successful career. ICA is here to help every step of the way.
How much money do Ontario home inspectors make?
The average annual salary for a home inspector in Ontario varies, depending on the number of inspections performed each week. Part time home inspectors doing two inspections on average per week will earn $35,000 in supplemental income. A full time home inspector can do two or three inspections per day! Full time home inspectors in Canada inspect 6-10 houses per week on average and can earn over $100,000 annually. Home inspectors in Toronto, Hamilton, and Ottawa earn the highest salaries in Ontario.
Is your Ontario home inspection training class affiliated with CAHPI?
Do you prepare graduates of your Ontario home inspection course for the CAPHI exam?
Yes, as part of our online home inspection student reference library we include CAHPI exam study resources, including the home inspection standards of practice and code of ethics. It is also important to note that if you do decide to register for the CAHPI exam you have the option to include a practice exam. The official CAHPI home inspection exam and the practice home inspection exam can both be taken online.

Does Ontario require continuing education for home inspectors?
No. Continuing education is not required for home inspectors in Ontario.
Do you mail me a physical copy of my certification?
Upon completion of the course, a certificate will be emailed to you along with your certification number.
What should I use for my inspection report when I perform a home inspection?
Our students receive a free copy of their Report Form Pro Nitro home inspection reporting software. That is the report that most of our graduates start with since it is so easy to use. Normally selling for $400, the Report Form Pro Nitro home inspection report can be printed and filled out by hand or filled out on your smartphone, tablet, or computer. You can even put in photos easily. They also have a mobile app version of their home inspection report that can be used on an Android or Apple mobile device. At the end of the day, all that matters is that you have a home inspection report form that you’re comfortable with, and these are both good home inspection report options.
Does the online home inspection course for Ontario have a time limit?
No. There is no time limit on our course, so you can take as much time as you would like to complete it.
Can I start my own business after taking your online home inspection course?
Yes. In fact, the majority of our graduates will start their own successful home inspection business after completing our course. We also train you on the whole marketing and business start-up side of things.
What if I have questions during the home inspection course?
We have full support for all students and graduates, both during and after the course. Even if you have questions when you are on a home inspection, we can assist via email, text, or phone.
Do I need to be a home builder or a contractor to be a home inspector?
Absolutely not. We train students from all different backgrounds to be successful home inspectors. Although a contractor background can be beneficial, it is by no means necessary to become a home inspector in Ontario or any other province.
